ISCHIA TRAVEL GUIDE

A sun-drenched escape we will never forget

An island of dreams, where volcanic springs, orange skies and soft waves lap on the shores, Ischia, “un piccolo paradiso”- a little paradise as the locals call it, is a place we hold very close to our hearts at Avah.

Just an hour from the fast-talking, fast-moving streets of Naples, Ischia feels like a secret world; life here is softer. A week holidaying on this Island was filled with slow mornings, where golden light would spill through shuttered windows, days were made for ocean swims and spritzes, and evenings shimmered with curiosity and quiet intrigue to explore the cobbled streets of Forio.

Ischia will forever be etched into our memories of a place where we remembered how to simply be, to breathe deeply, move gently and savor every bite, every view and every lingering moment. Our time here is stitched with sunlight, stillness and laughter.

And now, we want to share our favourite things to do with you.

Spend the Day at Spiaggia di Cava dell’Isola

Just beyond the Bay of Citara, Spiaggia di Cava dell’Isola is a quieter, more secluded beach where time slows down.

Spend the day swimming in the clear, calm water and sunning on the warm sand, then head up to Da Imma & Mauro for a slice of freshly made pizza and a cold lemon granita, the perfect afternoon ritual.

As the sun begins to set, the beach takes on a golden glow, making it an idyllic spot to unwind with your favourite book and watch the sky fade from blue to blush.

Charter a boat and tour around the Island for a day

There’s something about seeing Ischia from the sea that makes you fall in love with it all over again. The island rises out of the water in shades of green and stone, with rugged cliffs, pastel towns and hidden beaches that seem to appear out of nowhere.

Chartering a boat, with or without a skipper, is the way to see the island, spending the day tracing the coastline, diving into turquoise grottos and drifting past and lush hillsides.

Stop to swim in the warm salty water near Gotta Verde or drop anchor at Ristorante La Pace for a midday lunch with a view.

Out at sea, everything moves slower and the soft brush of the wind, the water and the steady hum of the boat carving through the blue.

Visit the natural springs of Ischia

One of the Island's biggest draw cards lies beneath the surface, in the form of geothermal waters that bubble up to the earth in healing pools and steamy seaside springs.

From the wellness gardens of Negombo and Poseidon to the natural rock pools at Baia di Sorgeto, soaking in these thermal waters is like a warm embrace.

Whether you spend the afternoon wrapped in steam or soaking under the stars, these springs are a reminder of nature’s quiet power to restore.

Bring a towel and leave your watch behind and let the waters work their magic.

People watch in Forio

After long, sun-drenched hours by the sea, we’d wander into Forio as night began to fall, skin still warm, hair freshly washed from salt and wind and longing for a plate of pasta to satisfy our hunger.

The harbour buzzed with an effortless holiday energy; locals chatting in melodic Italian, old friends embracing like no time had passed and lovers strolling slowly, with a gelato in hand.

After dinner, we’d slip into a cafe, order two limoncellos and sink into our chairs as the night unfolded around us. The nights were never rushed, everything felt alive, yet unhurried, as if the island itself was inviting us to linger a little longer.

We aren’t ones to gatekeep, and this island is simply too special not to share. Ischia gave us memories stitched with sunshine, stillness, and joy.

We hope your journey here is just as unforgettable. Don’t forget to pack a film camera, an open heart and of course, your favourite Avah piece.
